Spent the weekend in western Massachusetts helping my sister move. I mentioned how beautiful all the farms and barns looked. "Those are all tobacco farms," my brother-in-law explained. "The Pioneer Valley tobacco leaves are famous for rolling cigars. Each one of those tobacco barns grosses the farmer between $30,000 and $40,000 per year." Later, I heard the memorable sentence, "The house is just down the road from the tobacco barn that used to be a nightclub."

I guess I never thought of it as Massachusetts, smoker's paradise.
