My urge to buy an Apple G5 has been cured.
- They don't support memory error detection and correction. 8GB of memory and no ECC?
operating system doesn't
support the hardware:
By Friday the 12th, I had come to the terrible realization that this G5 was going to be performing very few 64-bit instructions, because there was absolutely no 64-bit support for it in the operating system. (Yeah, they advertize that they support a 64-bit long long C type, but if you've ever seen assembler of these things being passed around, as opposed to the true 64-bit calling sequence, you'd wonder why anyone even bothered with them).
- It's expensive.
